QB Love: Cowboys Dak Prescott Reveals Lamar Jackson & Jalen Hurts Contract Thoughts

With Jalen Hurts getting his record-breaking contract extension, Cowboys QB Dak Prescott voiced his opinion on how it should impact Lamar Jackson's contract

It has been a busy offseason for quarterbacks of rivals of the Dallas Cowboys, with both Daniel Jones of the New York Giants and Jalen Hurts of the Philadelphia Eagles getting contract extensions.

Jones got a four-year, $160 million contract while Hurts got a record breaking five-year, $255 million extension that makes him the highest-paid player by annual salary. Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott was especially happy to hear Hurts got his extension and showed the Eagles quarterback love on the Adam Schefter Podcast.

“Yeah, congratulations and I’m proud of him,” Prescott said. “I hosted Jalen on a visit way back at Mississippi State years ago and I’m a fan of the guy and the way he plays the game.

"Not a fan of his team and when they have success … but a fan of him and the way that he approaches it."

However, while Jones and Hurts got new contracts with their respective teams, another quarterback's contract situation remains unsolved with Lamar Jackson and the Baltimore Ravens finding themselves at an impasse.

The argument surrounding Jackson has come to down to whether he's worth what he wants. Jackson himself, of course, thinks he is - with Prescott defending the star quarterback.

"I support those guys getting their money," Prescott said. "Hopefully he's next, and he tops Jalen."

Topping Hurts' contract might not happen for Jackson in terms of annual value, with Hurts bringing making $51 million annually. He could top his total guarantees, though, as he is only third in guarantees at $179.3 million guaranteed.

Hurts resetting the quarterback market, and the possibility of Jackson doing the same thing in the near future, as it makes the price of his next extension go up at. With two years left on the four-year, $160 million deal he signed in 2021, Prescott could be in store for another big payday in the coming years.
