Cowboys at Giants: Dak Offense Ready to 'Show Off The Speed'

Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott opens up on the team's newfound speed as Week 1 approaches.

The Dallas Cowboys regular season is here, and based on recent statements from quarterback Dak Prescott, fans should expect the offense to get off to a fast start.

Last season, the passing offense was essentially "The CeeDee Lamb Show,'' and it proved to be an entertaining watch as he’d record over 1,300 yards receiving.

This offseason, Dallas traded for veteran Brandin Cooks and drafted explosive running back Deauce Vaughn to complement Tony Pollard, who led all 1,000-yard rushers last season in yards per carry (5.2).

“Yeah, a lot of speed. You can name a lot of guys,” Prescott said. “[We have a] few guys that have speed but are playmakers. Speed is one thing, but to be a playmaker is another.”

Veteran wide receiver Brandin Cooks will be adding a new level of speed to the Dallas Cowboys offense this season.

Perhaps what’s most underrated about this Cowboys’ roster is the speed that can still unlock itself after being shackled down in 2022. Now that wide receiver Michael Gallup is more than a year removed from tearing his ACL, he should have back some of the explosiveness that helped him get over 1,100 yards receiving in 2019.

In addition to the health of Gallup helping boost the speed of Dallas’ offense, Jalen Tolbert’s speed was never in question last season after impressing at the combine and getting taken in the third round of last year’s NFL Draft. The issue seemed to be a lack of confidence keeping him off the field as a rookie.

But Tolbert this year has confidence that's made a "night-and-day'' difference, as he put it, and he should increase his near-nonexistent production from a season ago, serving as another talented option in the Cowboys’ offense.

“For me, it’s about getting these guys the ball,” said Prescott as he oversees the newly-installed "Texas Coast Offense.'' “Whether it’s in the run game or the pass game, or just out in space to allow them to do what they do best – break tackles, make people miss, and show off their speed. That’s going to make my job easier.”

On Sunday in Week 1, we'll see if Dallas’ speed translates to wins when ‘America’s Team’ opens at division rival the New York Giants.
