Cowboys Named 'Landing Spot' to Sign Pass Rusher Emmanuel Ogbah

The Dallas Cowboys could look into signing Emmanuel Ogbah after his release from the Miami Dolphins.

The Dallas Cowboys can solve their long-standing Super Bowl problem this off-season by at least getting a free agent who knows the lay of the championship land.

ESPN's Adam Schefter has reported that the Miami Dolphins plan to release veteran pass rusher Emmanuel Ogbah in a cost-cutting movie. Ogbah has amassed 42.5 sacks since joining the league as a second-round pick in 2016 and won a Super Bowl ring with the Kansas City Chiefs after the 2019 campaign.

The Oklahoma State alum will have his share of suitors and Jordan Dajani of CBS Sports says there's a chance that Ogbah could become a Cowboy again, reasoning that departures from the Dallas edition's front seven could cause them to search for reinforcements on the veteran ledgers.

"The Cowboys have several free agents on the defensive line, including Dorance Armstrong, Dante Fowler Jr., Johnathan Hankins, and Neville Gallimore," Dajani notes. "Dallas is undergoing a change on the defensive side of the ball with Dan Quinn now in Washington, but new defensive coordinator Mike Zimmer is still going to want to bring in experienced players who can get after the quarterback."

Joining the Cowboys on Dajani's Ogbah wish list are the San Francisco 49ers and the Cleveland Browns, who hosted the first stages of his NFL career between 2016 and 2018.

The Cowboys have historically prided themselves on being a team capable of getting after the quarterback and the modern group has amplified that personality with the presence of Micah Parsons. Adding Ogbah would only bolster that reputation: since Parsons' arrival in 2021, Dallas has taken down a quarterback on 141 occasions, tied for the fourth-best tally in the NFL in that span.

Ogbah took on a deeper role on the Miami depth chart after returning from triceps surgery that limited him to nine appearances in 2022. Miami is set to save eight figures against the cap with Ogbah's release after setting him free from a four-year, $65 million contract inked in 2020.

With his injury combined with losing snaps to young rising talents like Bradley Chubb and Jaelan Phillips, the Cowboys would in theory be able to get Ogbah on an affordable deal. ... but of course Dallas has its cap concerns as well, especially as the Cowboys want to eventually lock down their own edge star in Micah Parsons.
