Cowboys' Jake Ferguson And Peyton Hendershot OK With TE Draft Talk?

NFL Draft talk surrounding the Dallas Cowboys has the franchise taking a tight end in the first round, but with Jake Ferguson and Peyton Hendershot already on the roster, should they feel they've been done wrong?

Regarding who the Dallas Cowboys could select in the first round of this NFL Draft, tight end is a position that has been picking up some serious steam.

With the class rich with top-tier talents in Michael Mayer, Dalton Kincaid, Luke Musgrave, Darnell Washington, Sam LaPorta and more, many predictions have Dallas fortifying the tight end room after Dalton Schultz left via free agency.

But aren't we forgetting two rookies who showed tremendous promise last year in Jake Ferguson and Peyton Hendershot?

While the duo's numbers from last season don't jump off the page (277 yards and four touchdowns combined), both rookies showed enough to warrant a more significant role in Mike McCarthy's offense next season.

Or so we thought.

Does the pair have a right to be slightly ticked off at all the tight end talk? With an opening to establish themselves next season, the front office seems to think differently from many of us about what they can offer.

Or ... do the Cowboys simply want to fortify the room and have three tight ends for Dak Prescott to utilize? As a source told CowboysSI.com, "They have good tight ends … but it looks like they’re trying to find their "(Travis) Kelce.''

Most of the fascination with this year's tight end class is the sheer size and athleticism of all players. But there's a case to be made that both Ferguson and Hendershot's athletic profiles are one of their biggest strengths.

We have seen Hendershot's run-after-the-catch ability and Ferguson's leap over a Giants defender last year, so the athleticism is there from both, but is this year's tight end class too good to pass up an opportunity to take one with the No.26 pick?

Potentially, but Ferguson and Hendershot have both shown they are more than capable of being viable options for Prescott. ... while at the same time not having build their resumes enough to gripe.

More likely, and more wisely, "Fergushot'' will take the rumors as motivation ... and maybe the Cowboys tight ends room, no matter which "third guy'' joins it, will be the better for it.
