Joined at The Hip: What's Cowboys WR Brandin Cooks Teaching Jalen Tolbert?

Dallas Cowboys receiver Jalen Tolbert is using the offseason to learn more about himself, with Brandin Cooks a big reason for the receiver's improvement.

Dallas Cowboys second-year receiver Jalen Tolbert is on a journey to better acclimate himself as an NFL player ... and veteran Brandin Cooks is helping.

Coming off a rookie season that didn't showcase Tolbert's ability, the receiver has used the offseason to better himself as a player...and everyone has taken notice.

Wide receivers coach Robert Prince detailed the differences he has noticed in Tolbert during OTA's and minicamp.

"JT has really attacked this offseason; he did a tremendous job," Prince said. "When they're allowed to come into the building, he's been in the building, and he's also got a chance to talk to CeeDee [Lamb] and with Brandin, I mean he's been on Brandin's hip and learning from him."

With a veteran receiver who has seen it all across his NFL career, Tolbert himself detailed how Cooks' addition to the locker room has helped him develop as a receiver, stating:

"We go eat, talk ball, we work out together, all the little things," Tolbert said. "He's been in the league for a while, and he's had six 1,000-yard seasons. We talk, and he sees in me what I see as well, and he told me 'I'm gonna look out for you.'"

With the Cowboys now on break until training camp, which CowboysSI.com was first to note is slated to begin with players reporting on July 24, Tolbert will be looking to build on the improvement he has already shown thus far.

He looks more sure of himself as a player and has linked up several times with Dak Prescott during team drills, with his decisive route running being a feature.

Of course, routes have been run against air, and the true test of Tolbert's improvement will come during training camp. Still, to Prince, Tolbert doesn't seem to be overthinking things as he did a year ago.

"Definitely, you see the improvement," Prince said. "He's not out there thinking as much and playing with more speed and more physicalness. He's done a tremendous job."

With the spot for the WR4 position up for grabs, it may be Tolbert who finally looks to show Cowboys Nation that the receiver who totaled 2,560 receiving yards and 16 touchdowns in his final two years for South Alabama is finally ready for the NFL stage.
