Dallas Cowboys defenders Micah Parsons and Mazi Smith are spending some of their down time before the regular season begins putting in work at one of the few sports that might be even more brutal than football.

While it's fair to assume neither of them took any blows themselves, both Parsons and Smith likely got a tremendous workout Monday with USA certified boxing trainer Tony Mack ...

As Parsons prepares for his third NFL season, the former first-round pick is one of the odds-on favorites to win Defensive Player of the Year. In each of his first two seasons, the seemingly positionless Parsons has been a First-Team All-Pro selection, racking up 149 combined tackles, 56 quarterback hits, 33 tackles for a loss, 26.5 sacks, six forced fumbles and three fumble recoveries.

It would not be hyperbolic to say Parsons has started his career on a Hall of Fame trajectory, and whatever long-term contract San Francisco 49ers edge rusher Nick Bosa eventually signs, Parsons will likely top that as soon as next offseason when he becomes eligible to sign a second contract.

Meanwhile, the Cowboys selected Smith with the 26th overall pick in this year's NFL Draft. The 6-foot-3, 326-pound defensive tackle was a First-Team All-Big Ten selection in his final collegiate season at Michigan. He'll become another chess piece that defensive coordinator Dan Quinn has at his disposal.

Not that conditioning was a concern for either, but after spending a day working with Mack, you can bet that both Parsons and Smith will have tremendous stamina for the team's Week 1 matchup with the division-rival New York Giants.
