Cowboys Draft Elite LB Drew Sanders As Micah Parsons Weapon: NFL Mock

An elite defense gets even better as DraftWire has the Cowboys drafting one of the best linebacker prospects in the draft.

With the NFL season officially over and the offseason getting ready to launch into full swing, the Dallas Cowboys on paper have a roster that is a Super Bowl contender.

Of course the games aren't played on paper and having a talented roster only gets you so far if you can't win in the playoffs. As such, the Cowboys will look to get even better ahead of next season.

One avenue to do so is the NFL draft, where they are set to pick No. 26 overall in the first round. With that first-round pick, DraftWire believes the Cowboys will look to bolster an already elite defense.

Rd. 1 No. 26 - Drew Sanders - Linebacker (Arkansas)

Free agency could deplete the Cowboys’ starting lineup at the second level of the defense, so linebacker could be an early-round target in this draft. A former five-star recruit and Alabama transfer, Sanders has the versatility and athleticism to line up all over the defense, and make big plays from any spot.

After transferring from Alabama, Sanders became a force for the Arkansas defense.

He finished the season with 103 total tackles, including 13.5 tackles for loss and nine sacks. Sanders also forced three fumbles while recovering one and hauling in an interception.

For a Cowboys defense that held opponents to 20.1 points per game on 330.2 yards of total offense, adding Sanders could elevate them to an even higher level - and potentially get them over the hump in the playoffs.

And a thought: just as “getting Dak Prescott more weapons” is a common theme in the offensive meeting rooms at The Star, the more “weapons” the defense employs frees Micah Parsons to lift his game as well.
