Cowboys vs. Eagles vs. Giants in Future Bill Belichick Hiring Sweepstakes?
Cowboys owner and general manager Jerry Jones has been very public about his consideration of Bill Belichick coming to Dallas.
"I know him personally and I like him,” Jones told reporters while watching Senior Bowl practice in Mobile, Alabama. “There’s no doubt in my mind we could work together. None. None.”
And another NFC East team reportedly is still considering the former Patriots coach.
If things turn ugly with coach Nick Sirianni in Philadelphia next season, reports are that the Eagles would still be interested in Belichick.
“Probably the most interesting thing that I’ve heard, and again this is just Senior Bowl rumor mill, is that the Eagles were very interested in Belichick if things didn’t work out with Nick Sirianni and they could be at the front of the line if things again go poorly for him next year,” an additional report now notes.
This much is true: It's not hard to believe the Eagles will have Sirianni on a short leash next season after the epic collapse Philadelphia experienced at the end of 2023.
At the same time, given Jerry's remarks ... it's easy to imagine McCarthy on a leash of the same length.
The Eagles completed the season by losing six of seven and relinquishing the division title to the hated Cowboys, then losing to the Buccaneers 32-9 in Tampa in the Wild Card round of the postseason.
Belichick was thought to be the favorite to replace Arthur Smith in Atlanta, but the Falcons instead hired Rams defensive coordinator Raheem Morris as their new head coach - leaving Belichick still available.
The Eagles could be one of three teams still thought to be interested in Belichick for 2024 or beyond. Those teams would be the Cowboys, Eagles, and Giants, where Belichick served as defensive coordinator and won two Super Bowls with Bill Parcells.
Compelling stuff: An NFC East tug-of-war for the services of Bill Belichick? And we only have to wait another year for it!
