Cowboys Stock Report: Vaughn Trending Up, Turpin Down?

The Dallas Cowboys couldn't overcome the Jacksonville Jaguars in their preseason opener despite a strong showing from several young players. Who's trending now?

The Dallas Cowboys fell short in their preseason opener versus the Jacksonville Jaguars as a comeback effort after being down 14-0 fell just short

While no true contributors took the field inside AT&T Stadium on Saturday evening, there was plenty for fans to watch, like potential future stars, running back Deuce Vaughn and inside linebacker DeMarvion Overshown making plays on their respective sides of the ball.

Despite the Cowboys not walking away from the game with the win, the positives have outweighed the negatives in our stock report.

Trending Up - Damone Clark The second-year linebacker out of LSU gave fans a strong first impression against the Jaguars as he was all over the field for the Cowboys defense in his 23 snaps. Clark finished his limited showing with five tackles, as he now looks to be the leading candidate to be the running mate of Leighton Vander Esch at inside linebacker.

Yet, he wasn't the only young backer who flashed ...

DeMarvion Overshown The rookie out of Texas quickly showed up on social media after recording his first career tackle, as he held Jaguars running back Tank Bigsby to no gain on a third-and-1 run.

Despite coming out of college viewed by some as more as a development piece for the Cowboys this season, if Overshown continues to play as he did against the Jaguars, he could find himself on the field with meaningful snaps.

Deuce Vaughn Not only did Vaughn show how dangerous he can be in the open field, but he also displayed his ability to make defenders miss with his shiftiness and be difficult to bring down.

'Deuce is loose' may become a common phrase uttered by fans when the 5-foot-5 rookie is in the game. Vaughn only added to his fan-favorite status against the Jaguars, as he led the Cowboys in rushing with 50 yards and a touchdown on eight carries.

Jalen Tolbert Any concerns about the Cowboys' depth out-wide behind CeeDee Lamb, Michael Gallup, and Brandin Cook may have been slightly quelled after the showing from second-year Jalen Tolbert.

The former third-round pick, who barely featured as a rookie despite being billed as a potential Day 1 contributor, caught his first touchdown against the Jaguars on a wonderfully executed route, where he appeared to sell a hitch route before cutting inside for a wide-open touchdown reception.

While it was eventually wiped out due to an offensive pass interference penalty, he did show his ability as a deep threat, reeling in what would've been a 30-yard gain.

Trending Down - KaVontae Turpin No, one fumble won't make or break a career, yet after three fumbles last season, the Cowboys don't want to have special teams blunders costing them possessions.

After the Cowboys' defense got off the field for the second time against the Jaguars, a fumble on the punt return from Turpin gave Jacksonville a second chance, which they capitalized on with a touchdown.

The O-Line The Zack Martin contract holdout has created a dark cloud here. But there is something more ... It's tough for the layman to "grade'' offensive linemen, but this group didn't look good - and the idea that a Martin replacement was somewhere in this pile doesn't seem viable.

The Cowboys be back in action next Saturday when they travel to take on the Seattle Seahawks. Kickoff is set for 9 p.m. (CT).
