Cowboys to Win Super Bowl? Gambler Bets Big on Dallas
A bettor from the Land of Lincoln has placed a lot of five-dollar bills on the Dallas Cowboys to win Super Bowl LVIII.
Caesars Sportsbook broke news of the wager on Thursday, mentioning that $3000 was placed against +1600 odds, which would net a prize of $48,000 if the Cowboys triumph in next February's championship in Las Vegas. Those odds are currently tied for fourth-best in Caesars' future odds with the New York Jets and behind only the most recent combatants in Kansas City (+650) and Philadelphia (+900) as well as the Cowboys' most recent postseason nemesis, the San Francisco 49ers (also +900).
Even with their highly-publicized lack of postseason success ... the loss to San Francisco in January's Divisional round denied Dallas an appearance in the NFC title game for the 27th consecutive season ... the Cowboys remain a trendy and popular betting pick. Their national reputation will likely keep that alive indefinitely but the team has done a solid job in trying to build on consecutive 12-win seasons, earning that tally in back-to-back seasons for the first time since their most recent championship heyday (1992-95).
The offseason has seen Dallas make a firm change in their rushing program, passing the full-time primary reins to $10 million franchise tag holder Tony Pollard, who takes over for the released Ezekiel Elliott. Dallas has also made an attempt to solve its playmaker problem on both sides of the ball, raiding the AFC South to the tune of receiver Brandin Cooks (Houston) and cornerback Stephon Gilmore (Indianapolis).
There will be pressure on Dallas ... working with several characters in potential make-or-break positions in major spots (i.e. Mike McCarthy, Dak Prescott) ... to fulfill its annual laundry list of massive expectations. Now, there are 48,000 more incentives to make it to Sin City next winter.
