Finders Keepers? Cowboys' Mazi Smith Storage Unit Sold, Claims Viral Video

Dallas Cowboys rookie defensive tackle Mazi Smith may have forgotten to pay the bills for his storage unit. One TikToker claims to have bought the unit, complete with memorabilia.

Dallas Cowboys defensive tackle Mazi Smith was rumored to lose 30 pounds during his rookie season. He may have lost even more in the weeks since its completion.

On Thursday, a TikTok from @vbroadwayfinds went viral as fans traced back a lucrative storage unit back to Smith. The TikToker bought the unit at auction after it wasn’t paid for and immediately found memorabilia worth well more than what the unit initially seemed to offer.

Smith wasn’t mentioned by name, but given the details revealed – including their first-round status in the 2023 NFL Draft and a Michigan Wolverines playbook – it didn’t take long to identify the mystery man.

The locker, which went for $1,880, included player-exclusive cleats and other footwear. Before teasing additional videos, the user was sure to point out an inadvertent glimpse into Smith’s personality: boxes upon boxes filled with Legos. ... and five million people have viewed the tweet.

Smith’s rookie campaign was a disappointing one. He never achieved full-time starter status, even as the run defense crumbled, and played just four snaps in the team’s Wild Card Round defeat to the Green Bay Packers. It was always sold as a long-term move, but the short-term dividends were underwhelming at best.

His struggles have opened the door for defensive tackle to be a conversation for Dallas on draft night, though others expect the Cowboys to give him more opportunities to earn significant playing time.

Smith, of course, was a standout at Michigan, where the majority of the locker’s memorabilia came from.

In the “part two” of the locker’s cleanout, the TikToker showed off a flurry of exclusive Jordan brand shoes, some of which he claims are limited to 250 ever made. He also claims there was a receipt for a $12,000 pair of sunglasses and boxes of clothing Smith received during his Wolverines tenure.

Perhaps those are simply the perks of playing at the highest level of college football. Maybe the luxuries of an NFL contract include being able to forget about all of those items.

However, it’s still possible that Smith didn’t mean for his storage unit to be sold. Losing items that he earned on his way to the NFL is unfortunate regardless of his professional earnings. If that’s the case, hopefully Smith can recoup some of what was lost. Given how quickly the clips went viral, I doubt the user would be hard to find.
