Cowboys Luke Schoonmaker: 'Loaded' TE Group is ‘The Four Horsemen’

New Dallas Cowboy Luke Schoonmaker is looking forward to being a contributor to a tight end room briming with talent.

Luke Schoonmaker is adjusting to life as a Dallas Cowboy rather well. After rookie minicamp was undertaken, attention now turns to training camp for the former Michigan Wolverine.

Coming into an NFL tight end room can be daunting, but Schoonmaker is already familiar with his teammates, most notably another Michigan ex in Sean McKeon.

"I'm really close with Sean [McKeon], we've talked about the rest of the room [Jake Ferguson and Peyton Hendershot], and I'm just excited to meet all of them, working with them, and just create a bond. It's going to be awesome," Schoonmaker said.

Creating that bond will be paramount for the Cowboys' tight end room to continue its work from last season.

Losing Dalton Schultz to the Houston Texans via free agency, Dallas lost its second-best receiving outlet (557 yards, five touchdowns).

But with Ferguson and Hendershot both showing promise in their rookie campaigns and McKeon playing a career-high 161 snaps on special teams, the tight end room has some talent.

What is unique is that each player brings something different to the offense, and Schoonmaker is happy to plug in and do what he can for his new team.

"We're pretty loaded with guys that can do so many different things. I'll just be in there to do whatever is asked of me," Schoonmaker said. "It's like a Four Horsemen group. All of them being put in different spots and everyone is playing a lot. It's going be fun going in there to be another Horseman and bring what I can to that room."

With Mike McCarthy's west coast offense installation being a big part of the offseason, the tight end group will likely see a decent amount of game time next season.

Focused more on running the football and getting quarterback Dak Prescott into a groove with quick, crips throws, the likes of Schoonmaker, Ferguson, and Hendershot will all get their chance in the open field.

While not quite “the Four Horseman of the Apocalypse,” Dallas' tight ends will each bring something different to the table ... and that could make some defenses feel like the stampede - if not the apocalypse - is coming.
