Rams CB Jalen Ramsey Trade to Cowboys 'Rumor Picking Up Steam'

FRISCO - The Jalen Ramsey story is unfolding in an awkward way, as best exemplified by a report from The Athletic that connects the star cornerback to the Dallas Cowboys - hardly uncommon - but does so in an unconventional manner.

Writes the outlet: “All parties involved remain tight-lipped on the trade availability of Rams cornerback Jalen Ramsey, but there’s a rumor picking up steam in league circles that the Cowboys would be a good fit.''

To be frank: The "rumor'' isn't new; we've written about it numerous times.

Given the fact that the "rumor'' isn't new, it's odd to term those involved as "tight-lipped.''

But we will give this to the report: The "picking up steam'' part has us intrigued.

So does the work of the trusted Jourdan Rodrigue of The Athletic, who touches on these same rumors by writing, “While a trade isn’t assured, as teams finish their assessments of defensive back prospects over the next week, those talks could escalate into something tangible.”

Are the Cowboys really a “good fit” for Ramsey? Not financially, they are not. Barring owner Jerry Jones seriously committing to the idea of "emptying the bucket,'' today's Cowboys front office making a gigantic financial commitment to Ramsey while also planning on the same in the near future to incumbent cornerback Trevon Diggs is actually the opposite of a "good fit.''

Additionally, as the Rams camp does not seem interested at this point in cutting the 28-year-old perennial Pro Bowler, there will be a trade price to pay. How costly is that price? That will also determine the quality of the Ramsey "fit'' in Dallas.

"Pairing Jalen Ramsey with Trevon Diggs would certainly create one of the most fascinating cornerback combinations in the NFL,'' writes The Athletic about this Cowboys rumor, and that is true.

But "fascinating'' and "good fit'' can be vastly different things.
