Raiders Cut Hunter Renfrow; Do Cowboys Have 'Comfort' To Sign Slot WR in Free Agency?

Las Vegas Raiders Cut Hunter Renfrow; Do Dallas Cowboys Have 'Comfort' To Sign Slot Receiver to Help CeeDee Lamb in NFL Free Agency?

FRISCO - As troubling as the Dallas Cowboys' free agency inactivity has been, maybe Cowboys Nation can be comforted a bit by the belief that the "Texas Coast Offense'' was in 2023 an elite-level NFL group ... and that it can be again in 2024 ...

Especially with some additional pieces brought to town.

We present this idea already understanding that Dallas obviously has no intention of being Tier 1 spenders in this process. But ... with the Cowboys allowing Michael Gallup to seek a trade, the organization should be looking to address the receiver position during the offseason.

And Hunter Renfrow just got cut by the Las Vegas Raiders.

What could he do here as a slot receiver? It can be argued that the damage CeeDee Lamb has done in the slot as a reason to not explore an idea like this. But now Renfrow's large cap hit ($13 million) is a piece of the puzzle that his new team doesn't have to worry about.

If Brandin Cooks is worth $8 million APY for the Cowboys ... what might Renfrow be worth?

Lamb is an All-Pro wide receiver on the outside, just as much as he is inside. His balance of route-running and ball skills make him one of the best in football for a reason. Teaming him with a guy who can also get open at a high clip and make difficult catches inside is a valid idea. Can young incumbents Jalen Tolbert and Jalen Brooks do that?

It'd be "comforting'' to know that if the Cowboys pass on ideas on the Renfrow level, it's because their answer to the Tolbert/Brooks question is "yes'' ... as opposed to their answer simply being that Renfrow will not be budget-friendly - without ever having truly examined the notion.
