'I'm Ready To Hit Somebody In The Face!' New Cowboys DT Mazi Smith Arrives at The Star - WATCH

Dallas Cowboys COO Stephen Jones says that Michigan defensive tackle Mazi Smith adds an element to Dan Quinn's defense ... and now Mazi is at The Star to begin his journey ...

FRISCO - The plane ride and then the bus ride. The arrival at The Star in Frisco. The meeting and greeting as a very public journey begins.

That is how the newest Dallas Cowboys addition is starting his Friday ... and his career in the NFL.

"I want,'' the run-stopping tackle from Michigan said, "to make everyone happy. Make everybody trust me. Make everybody PROUD.”

Said COO Stephen Jones: "Mazi obviously brings an element to our run game, stopping the run that other than (Johnathan) Hankins, we don’t have. We felt like [it] was a great fit for us and really did something that makes us a better defense at the end of the day.”

What does Mazi think of what he brings?

Dallas has been exposed in that area at times, and Smith is considered the best run-stopping lineman in this draft class. How, exactly, does he accomplish that?

He says in part that he was born with the ability, to some degree.

“Man, I’m like 325 pounds, first off," he said. "And then I got real power in my hands. I’ve been strong my whole life. My mom says when I came out the womb, it’s like I was doing pushups in there. I just been strong my whole life.”

Additionally, there is the matter of attitude and approach. On Thursday, he told us that what Dallas is getting is "a big fella, a big physical guy. A guy that’s never been afraid of contact, never been afraid of ball, a guy that’s going to get in somebody’s face. A guy who ain’t going to make it easy.”

And on Friday, he put a finer point on it.

“I’m ready to hit somebody in the face,'' Mazi said shortly after touching down at his new home office in Frisco. "I’m not playin’.”
