FRISCO - Micah Parsons is expressing respect for what the Philadelphia Eagles did last season while noting, "They came up short.'' And this year, what is the plan for Parsons and the Dallas Cowboys when it comes to emerging from the NFC East and to the Super Bowl?

"It’s our turn this year,'' Parsons said. "You gotta capitalize on your opportunities and this is our year."

Parsons is entering his third year in the league, but is not only one of the NFL's best players but also one of its most vocal personalities. He was a key to the Cowboys ending with a 12-5 record ... but a record that couldn't match the 14-3 Eagles.

Parsons was the Defensive Player of the Year runner-up last year, as San Francisco 49ers lineman Nick Bosa’s 18.5 sacks registered with the voters a bit more than Parsons' 13.5 sacks ... despite the fact that the "Lion-backer'' is asked to do much more in Dallas than chase the QB. This year, as the Cowboys work to join the Eagles and Niners as NFC "big dogs,' he's adding a bit of weight while hinting that he might "play eight different positions,'' a maybe-hyperbolic way of stressing his versatility.

Parsons has talked about taking a different approach in 2023, de-emphasizing any focus on sacks while just trying to be "dominant.'' But in this visit with Fox News Digital, he went another direction.

"Same mission: Be the best player in the league, have the best impact in the league," he said of his goals. "Show people I am who I am and make a statement this year."

And the way to make that statement? Make 2023 the Cowboys' year.
