'Gotta Score More!' Dak Prescott Reveals Undefeated Cowboys’ Goal

Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott is happy with his team sitting at 2-0 through two weeks, but he wants more trips to the end zone.

Being the quarterback of "America's Team" comes with its challenges, especially after leading the NFL in interceptions the year prior.

Dak Prescott knows that. He also knows what is expected of him under center for the Dallas Cowboys this season. For a team that has not been to the Super Bowl since winning it in the 1995 season, that's the goal: winning it all.

How do you do that? Well, it helps when you have a defense like the one the Cowboys have put on the field during the first two weeks of the season, but for Prescott's offense, it means getting in the end zone.

That sounds simplistic, but if there is one drawback to the Cowboys' 30-10 trouncing of the New York Jets on Sunday, it's just that: they settled for five field goals in the win.

"We've got to score more," Prescott said following Dallas' blowout victory. "We've got to get more touchdowns than field goals … It’s about getting the job done and winning the game and being complementary of your defense. I think we did that. Very efficient in ways, but we left a lot out there still."

Head coach Mike McCarthy has taken over the play-calling duties for Dallas this season, operating what’s come to be called the “Texas Coast" offense, a special twist on the West Coast system popularized by Bill Walsh in the 1980s.

That offensive system places a lot of emphasis on quarterback efficiency, something that Prescott has thrived in during the first two weeks of the season. So far, he has completed 71 percent of his passes (including over 81 percent on Sunday) for two scores.

Being efficient is great. The ball not hitting the ground is always a plus, especially when you haven't thrown an interception yet this season, but does it matter when you're having to settle for field goals?

"That's the standard of this offense and this team," Prescott said. "We expect to score touchdowns on every drive, so when you don't do that, you still haven't hit your goal. A lot we can do better, but overall, a very efficient team win that I'm proud of. Hard to win in this league."

It appears that the Cowboys have a kicker in Brandon Aubrey who is a perfect 7-for-7 in field goal opportunities this season, but if Dak has his way, Aubrey will see the field a little less often moving forward.
