FRISCO - Though this take is being billed in some quarters as "shocking,'' the fact is, talkative Dallas Cowboys "Lion-backer'' Micah Parsons is actually stating a semi-obvious truth when on his weekly podcast "The Edge'' this week, he offered up his thoughts on which team is presently the NFL's best.

"No. 1 would have to be the Philadelphia Eagles,” said Parsons. And while that remark might cause some consternation among those in Cowboys Nation ... doesn't the Eagles' combination of "eye test'' performance and their record - the Eagles co-own the NFL’s best record at 6-1 - with the Kansas City Chiefs - justify Micah's pick?

"It's very special to see what they've done,'' Parsons continued. "I don't believe they have any weaknesses."

The Eagles just got done with a nationally televised pounding of a Miami Dolphins team that is also considered elite. And the San Francisco 49ers have lost two straight. There are other candidates in terms of who might be "upper echelon,'' as Cowboys owner Jerry Jones put it this week - and Dallas is up there somewhere - but Parsons is simply being honest here.

“Nobody has stopped the Tush Push yet,'' said Parsons, rattling off the reasons for his pick. "DeVonta Smith could be (a No. 1 wideout) while A.J. Brown is a No. 1 wide receiver. (Center) Jason Kelce (is a) Hall of Famer. (Offensive lineman) Lane Johnson will be a Hall of Famer. They're very special.''

The 4-2 Cowboys will continue to give chase in the NFC East, this week hosting the Los Angeles Rams on Sunday. And after that? The Cowboys have beaten the Eagles in four of the last five meetings between the NFC East foes, and get another chance to do that on Nov. 5 when Parsons and the Cowboys head to Lincoln Financial Field in Philly for a possible "who's No. 1'' showdown.
