Virtual Fight! Micah Parsons Reacts to Gronk 'Weird Loser' Rip of Dallas Cowboys Star
FRISCO - We have in this space wondered why Dallas Cowboys star Micah Parsons chooses to use social media in a way that ends up "poking bears,'' most recently with a tweet jabbing San Francisco 49ers QB Brock Purdy as being something less than MVP-worthy.
And now Rob Gronkowski is wondering the same thing, the legendary tight end turned media figure calling Parsons' actions "weird'' and generally tossing the word "loser'' into the conversation.
"There's a saying out there,'' Gronk said on "Up & Adams.'' "Losers focus on winners and winners focus on winning. If you want to be a winner, you've just got to focus on winning. It's really weird ...''
As you might expect, it literally took only seven minutes for Parsons to use part of his Wednesday morning to issue a response to Gronk's criticism.
"Prime example of, 'Let’s attack the person rather than addressing the topic!' Yeah,'' Micah wrote, "because it’s so weird a football player is talking about football on a web site where you can write your own thoughts and opinions!''
We have our kindly theory as to why Parsons handles his social-media business as he does. Simply, he's both "Parsons the player'' and "Micah the fan,'' and he sees no issue with the two of them morphed together.
But Gronkowski - who has been there and done that in ways Micah has not yet - is essentially offering some advice on focus.
"It's really weird because in this case,'' Gronk said. "Micah Parsons is one of the best defensive players in the league. He might win Defensive Player of the Year this year. But ...
"It's weird that he's tweeting that after a loss vs. Miami in Miami and then he's tweeting that about a team that absolutely dismantled the Cowboys when they play them this year."
What Parsons does not see: This isn't about whether he "has the right'' to voice his opinion; heck, in this same segment, Gronkowski voiced his by citing the Cowboys' 3-5 road record as the reason he believes Dallas is "incapable" of winning a road playoff game.
No, it's not about whether Micah "the right'' to having an opinion.
It's about whether doing so is the best way to help his football team.
