Aaron Rodgers Credits Cowboys' Mike McCarthy 'Success' for Jets Mindset

FRISCO - Aaron Rodgers is famously grumpy, a curmudgeon who long wore "being difficult'' on his green-and-gold sleeve. We've always believed - especially as we've gotten to know Mike McCarthy during his time here in charge of the Dallas Cowboys - that their often-conflicting relationship with the Green Bay Packers was largely about Rodgers being something less than a get-along guy.

But we grow. We learn. We reflect. And Rodgers, who in fairness has in recent times said some gentlemanly things about McCarthy - after all, the two men did have majestic success together, including playoff victories and culminating in a Super Bowl championship - is saying something nice again.

"An old coach of mine said, 'Our greatest difficulty is going to be handling success,''' Rodgers said this week as he begins his career as the New York Jets QB. "And I think that will be true this year for us.''

As our friend Jori Epstein (who tweeted it) notes: It shouldn't take Cowboys fans very long to figure out which "old coach'' Rodgers might be referencing.

The New York Jets, led by Rodgers, play at Dallas this year, with the McCarthy-led Cowboys playing host at AT&T Stadium in Week 2. There will be a week-long lead-up of kind words between the two men. There will be a postgame embrace featuring Rodgers, the four-time MVP, and the "old coach.''

And as we reflect on Rodgers' reflections on that message he still remembers from the veteran coach? We're inclined to believe the words and the hug will be sincere.
