Cowboys Camp: Zack Martin and Sean Lee speak on injury updates

OXNARD - A pair of Dallas Cowboys with Pro Bowl resumes - right guard Zack Martin and linebacker Sean Lee - met with the media on Sunday morning to offer their respective injury updates.
Martin said he began to feel discomfort in his back after some contact early in camp. As first reported in this space, a weekend MRI showed no serious concern, the Cowboys now saying there is irritation to a disc in his back.
“I think we have a good way of handling things,” said Martin, who does not believe this is a long-term issue. “I think our training staff has a lot of experience with those types of injuries, so they have a plan set in place and I’m just following what they tell me to do.”
That plan, according to coach Jason Garrett, means Martin could miss about a week and will not play in the preseason opener next week against the San Francisco 49ers (which he was unlikely to do anyway.)
‘We’ll give it some time to calm down a little bit and hopefully be back sooner than later,'' Martin said.
Lee was very limited in his walk-through activity on Sunday morning and like Martin will not participate in Sunday's Blue-White Scrimmage as he is nursing a minor MCL sprain in his right knee.
“I know I’m progressing and feeling good about it,” said Lee, who like Martin did not lock into a specific timetable. “I’m sure I’ll be out here at some point pretty soon ... It's something that's manageable.''
Lee is well-aware of how injuries have plagued him throughout his career.
"It’s always frustrating, but I’ve gotten to the point to where I’m mature enough to look ahead and not let the frustration mess with my preparation,” Lee said.
The Cowboys do have positive news on Amari Cooper and his bruised heel, Garrett saying, "‘He was moving fine at the walk-through so we’ll see (about his Blue-White availability) as the day progresses.''
