In the aftermath of a couple of Dallas Cowboys in-team fights during Wednesday's training camp work in Oxnard, conventional wisdom was reflected in the old chestnut of an observation that "they're ready to hit somebody else.''

But two leaders of the Dallas defense think it is something more than that.

"We ain't taking no s*** from nobody - all 32 teams - we ain't taking s*** from nobody!" said veteran safety Jayron Kearse after practice. "Whether it's our offense or the next offense. We're trying to show we're the best in the business, so it gets spicy out here, it's gonna get spicy on Sundays, Mondays, Thursdays; whenever we line up, that's how we're gonna come."

Added star "Lion-backer Micah Parsons, who was right in the middle of one of the brawls: "Hell, yeah, I need that. ... I don't care who I'm up against. I don't care if it's Tyron (Smith), if it's Zack (Martin), if it's Tyler Smith -- I'm gonna beat the hell out of them.''

The first skirmish was the result of a blocking drill pitting offensive lineman Brock Hoffman and defensive end Sam Williams. In the opinion of the O-linemen, Williams went too far with his post-play shoves ... and so center Tyler Biadasz exploded onto the scene, slamming Williams to the turf, which sparked a massive melee.

Later came Parsons vs. Biadasz, with the All-Pro linebacker - who made boxing part of his offseason fitness routine this spring - throwing a series of at least two punches at the center's helmeted head ...  before none other than Dak Prescott entered the fray and pulled Parsons away.

Was tempers flaring just about "the everyday grind''? The defensive guys insist it is also about making a statement.

"Either way,'' said Kearse, "it's all good competition and, come September 10 (Week 1 at the Giants), it's gonna be another team on the opposite side of both [our] offense and the defense, and they're gonna have to take what we're bringing to them."
