Cowboys Draft Target Max Duggan 'Compares' Himself to Eagles QB Jalen Hurts; Here's Why

"Probably someone I kind of play like would probably be (Eagles star) Jalen Hurts, kind of that tough-minded leader, can make the throws any time. Can lead a group of men, fought through adversity, things of that sort." - TCU QB Max Duggan, Cowboys NFL Draft target.

FRISCO - To be completely fair, the "comparison'' TCU quarterback and 2023 NFL Draft prospect Max Duggan is making when he ends up mentioning MVP candidate QBs presently succeeding in the league wasn't the result of his ego.

It wasn't even his idea.

Duggan, who happens to have fans inside Dallas Cowboys HQ who would like to see him available as a Day 3 pick, appeared on the Rich Eisen Show to talk about his future. He was asked who he models his game after.

"A guy that I've watched a lot even lately is (Bengals QB) Joe Burrow, what he does with his movement and efficient movements and how he is in the pocket," Duggan said. "(But) I don't know if I'd say I play like him ...''

OK, kid. Let's take another stab at it.

"Probably someone I kind of play like would probably be like Jalen Hurts, kind of that tough-minded leader, can make the throws any time,'' Duggan said. "Can lead a group of men, fought through adversity, things of that sort."

Oh.

The 6-2, 201-pound Duggan does have speed as a runner and he does have intangibles, all put on display in his breakout season during his final year at TCU, as he led the school to its first-ever national championship game appearance.

He ended up being a Heisman Trophy finalist after he completed 63.7 percent of his passes for 32 touchdowns (with eight interceptions) and 3,698 yards - and yes, he also rushed for 423 yards and nine more scores.

That part is somewhat Hurts-like.

How does that translate to the NFL? The Cowboys think he can be a long-term backup. But who knows? Jalen Hurts was a second-round pick and the Cowboys know first-hand how quickly he developed into a threat, as he led Philly to the Super Bowl last year.
