Cowboys get good news on Amari Cooper MRI and on Xavier Woods return

FRISCO - The Dallas Cowboys on Wednesday saw one important starter leave practice and another important starter return to work - but it's all good news for receiver Amari Cooper and safety Xavier Woods.
Cooper, who is off to another Pro Bowl-caliber start to this season, underwent an MRI on his right ankle on Wednesday. We were initially told the receiver experienced some discomfort during the Wednesday practice session and departed the workout for an MRI that is described as “precautionary.” But today we understand that while Cooper was official listed as "limited'' from the workout, the discomfort occurred early enough in the day that he essentially did nothing in the practice.
But the good news: The results are back and the Cowboys medical people are pleased with the report; no serious issues for Cooper, who in addition to a sore right ankle is also working through the issue with his left foot and that plantar fascia irritation.
No word yet on what level Cooper might participate today as Dallas preps for Sunday night at New Orleans, but "caution'' and "precaution'' seem like smart buzzwords here.
UPDATE from coach Jason Garrett, from 1035 a.m. presser, as Cooper remains on-track for Sunday:
Garrett confirms (while trying not to say too much) that Amari Cooper's MRI-ankle may limit him in practice this week but should not be a problem for #Cowboys at #Saints - FULL STORY https://t.co/lHi8OBjcNi

Cooper, 24 and in the final year of his contract as he works toward an extension, missed much of training camp with the plantar fascia strain. He practiced Aug. 3 and then didn’t practice again until the week of the season opener, all along vowing that he’d be OK. He has been way better than “OK” with three-game totals of 16 catches for 238 yards and four touchdowns.

Meanwhile, Woods was also listed as "limited'' but we were told in the locker room that his participation was much higher than that as he spend the day working with the second team. (UPDATE: Indeed, Garrett said today that Woods had "a good practice.'') That means Darian Thompson, who started in his place last week for 3-0 Dallas, got one more day with the first team. But we'd suggest that Woods' is returning with an "arrow up'' as it regards his recovery from a Week 2 ankle injury and that barring a setback he seems primed to be ready for the Saints.
