FRISCO - In the wake of Tuesday's announcement of a new contract extension for Jaylon Smith, Dallas Cowboys ownership was asked about how the deal might impact negotiations with Dak Prescott, Amari Cooper and Ezekiel Elliott ... causing Jerry Jones to launch into a monologue about ... pie.

COO Stephen Jones took the simple and truthful answer about Cowboys camp room, simply answering 'Yes' when asked if there is enough 'pie' left to sign the other three stars after Smith got his five-year, $64 million deal.

That is truthful because Jaylon took less than he might've gotten at a later date ... and it is truthful because cap-wise, Dallas is set up to make the other fellas very rich men.

But Jerry? He offered a different "pie'' take.

"There is less pie left,'' he said. "Make no bones about it. There is less pie. ... Pi R Squared.''

It was at this point when PR boss Rich Dalrymple, a trusted Jones lieutenant, moved from the back of the room here at The Star to the front of the room, anticipating (correctly) that Jerry could at any moment go all "Glory Hole'' on everybody.

Jones did, however, speak some sense along with how usual word-salad gibberish.

"You have to allocate your resources wisely to keep and have all of those players. That's called team-building," Jerry said. "And I will assure you that this was about (the) team. Our goal is to build the best team and it takes cooperation from both parties when you're doing agreements.''

Both Jerry and Stephen reiterated to me and other media members on Tuesday after the presser than they remain confident there will be more press conferences to announce more monster deals ... In other words, here at The Star ... pie will be served.

Ah, but the owners are still the owners, which is why Jerry also left us with this regarding his seat at the bargaining table: “The team takes precedent at a point over the opinion or the demand of the individual,'' he sad. “The team takes precedent. And I've got the backbone to keep it that way."
