Cowboys Use Big Second Half to Cruise to Win Over Dolphins

ARLINGTON - The Dallas Cowboys entered Sunday's noon matchup against the Miami Dolphins with a chance to start 3-0 for the first time since 2008, and before the Jason Garrett era began. Despite a slow start, the Cowboys would reach that milestone, and set some new ones along the way, en route to their 31-6 victory.

"We started out slow,'' Ezekiel Elliott conceded, "and we didn't come out like we should have, and we definitely didn't play well enough .. But we got rolling ... and we took over and got the win. And that's all that matters.''

Dak Prescott might not have had his best day under center for Dallas, uncharacteristically missing a few easy throws, but still finished the game 19/32 for 236 yards and two touchdowns, with one interception and one touchdown on the ground.

Thanks to an explosive running attack, however, his offense was able to wear down an overmatched Miami bunch, that seemingly spent everything they had in the first 30 minutes of action.

Ezekiel Elliott led the way with 125 yards on 19 carries, while rookie Tony Pollard added 103 yards and touchdown 13 carries of his own. The pair of backs each going over the century mark was the first time the Cowboys have had a pair of 100-yard rushers in nearly 21 years, when Emmitt Smith and Chris Warren did it on October 12th, 2008 against the Washington Redskins.

In case you're wondering, the last time the #Cowboys had two RBs go over 100 yards rushing was Oct. 4, 1998.

Amari Cooper also had an outstanding day for the offense, adding 88 yards and two touchdowns on six catches and seven targets.

Defensively, the Cowboys were not outstanding but still held the lowly Miami attack to just six points on the afternoon. Josh Rosen, who made his first start in a Miami uniform, ended the game completing 18 of 39 passes for 200 yards with no touchdowns and no interceptions.

Dallas also held the Dolphins to just 72 yards on 24 carries, with Kenyon Drake's 13 carries for 44 yards leading the way.

Now 4-0, the Cowboys will look to extend their winning streak next Sunday against a shorthanded Saints team that will be without its star quarterback in Drew Brees, who injured his thumb during a week two loss to the Rams.

"Any time you're 3-0 it's a great feeling, but forget the record,'' Dak said. "This team can be really, really good. We got to focus on that and how do we get there. It's about taking that next step."
