FRISCO - Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott is harboring a “secret.” And he’d like to keep it that way until, say, Sunday night, September 10, in New York.

"I know my expectations but I don't care to tell the rest of the league what we're changing," Prescott explained.

We get it … though we do have some hints after having visited with Prescott and coach Mike McCarthy, who is taking over okay-calling as he works to install what’s come to be called the “Texas Coast Offense.”

“There will be a change,” Dak said, “It’s a little bit of what we've done in the past, with McCarthy's aggressiveness and West Coast background and just trying to meld the two together."

McCarthy is retaining most of the terminology that was used before his arrival. And some of the philosophies of the departed coordinator Kellen Moore will remain in the playbook.

But the West Coast Offense asks the QB to make fast (and hopefully accurate) reads and throws. Route-runners make fewer decisions on the fly as they run more horizontal routes. The QB is “protected” both by a physical running game and by the coach’s play design and in-game play-calls.

"It's going to be great,” said an enthused Dak. “It's been great this offseason, this summer, and I'm just looking forward to really putting it in."

The Cowboys will indeed add wrinkles and refinement as we get to training camp in Oxnard. But more specifically than that? Prescott has his “secrets” for the Giants in Week 1 … and beyond.
