Cowboys CeeDee Lamb: 'You Won't See That Again'

FRISCO - The 2020 Dallas Cowboys were supposed to boast a trio of 1,000-yard wide receivers, were supposed to see rookie pass-catcher CeeDee Lamb make a quick vault into "The 88 Club,'' and were supposed to - in their own judgment - win the NFC East and make their first playoff appearance since 2018.

Only one of those things, arguably, came to fruition.

“You definitely won’t see 6-10 (again),” Lamb said this week on NFL Network’s Good Morning Football, alluding to avoiding a repeat record from last year. “We obviously felt like we let ourselves short, if you will. We had as much excitement about last season, just as well as y’all did, just going into the season ... and the way it went down.

"You hate to see it, but it’s all part of it, and we know that.''

For the most part, Lamb, selected with the 17th overall pick in last April's NFL Draft, produced. The Oklahoma product is likely to have back that Week 1 fourth-down route at the Rams that fell short ... and he'd like to have the dropped pass at the end of the Week 17 loss at the Giants that sealed the Cowboys' fate as a non-playoff team.

But he broke the Cowboys rookie record for receptions. He became the first wide receiver in league history to catch at least five passes in his first six games. And his football IQ, athletic gifts and sheer want-to mean the promise is there, for him, his position group and his team in 2021.

It is the overall position of the Cowboys, as an organization, that 6-10 was a direct reflection on the array of injuries that destroyed the offensive lineup. La'el Collins missed the whole season. Blake Jarwin was lost for the year in Week 1. Tyron Smith missed 14 games. Zack Martin missed six games. And most important of all, the trigger-man who could've made more 1,000-yard receivers of this group, who could've engineered more wins from this group, Dak Prescott went down with a season-ending ankle injury in Week 5.

“The NFL is a tough game,'' said Lamb. "A lot of guys want to be great. ... Guys want to stay healthy but obviously ... we kind of took a blow on the injury bug, if you will.

"But going into next season we’re looking forward to better preparation and staying healthy.”
