'We Are Better!' Cowboys' Jerry Jones Fires NFC East Warning Shot

In this story:
The Dallas Cowboys have high expectations once again in 2023, and one of their top priorities is taking back the NFC East crown. And team owner Jerry Jones is feeling pretty good about their chances.
“We’re going to be on our game,'' Jones said this week. "And we will be improved over last year.''
Dallas has a very talented roster, and should be competing for the division deep into the season. It won't be easy, though, as three of four teams in the division made the playoffs last year, and the fourth one wasn't far off. As strong as the Cowboys' roster is, the Philadelphia Eagles, New York Giants and Washington Commanders won't go down without a fight.
Jones is nothing if not confident, though, and he wore that confidence with pride recently. The colorful Cowboys owner issued a warning to the rest of the NFC East at training camp, insinuating that Dallas is coming for the division crown.
“I will say that Philadelphia, and if you will the Giants and Washington team, they need to be on their game because we are,” Jones said at camp from Oxnard. “We’re going to be on our game. And we will be improved over last year. I don’t want to dismiss how accomplished Philadelphia is, the year they had last year and where they’re starting this year. I don’t want to dismiss that. And the Giants definitely have a chance to be better. And Washington could be really energized. ... Just us, we are better.”
While Jones addressed the Giants and Commanders, it's clear that the Eagles were his primary audience. After all, Dallas and Philadelphia have combined to win six of the last seven division titles, with the Cowboys winning in 2021 and Eagles in 2022.
As is often the case between these two bitter foes, the Cowboys and Eagles split last year's season series. The home team won both games, but it's worth noting that each team was missing their starting quarterback in the game they lost. The two regular season matchups i, set for Nov. 5 in Philadelphia and Dec. 10 in Dallas, will play a huge role in the NFC East once again.
Not that it needed any fuel added to the fire, but the NFC East race just got a bit more interesting with Jones' comments.
