Cowboys Draft CeeDee Lamb 'Running Mate' in ESPN Mock

Vote Lamb-Nabers in 2024.
That's what the latest mock draft from ESPN envisions, as late summer projections have the Dallas Cowboys landing LSU receiver Malik Nabers out of Louisiana State University. Analyst Matt Miller describes Nabers, fresh off a 1,017-yard season in Baton Rouge, as a "perfect running mate for CeeDee Lamb" in sending him to North Texas with the 27th pick of 2024.
"When looking at the Cowboys' future needs and areas of weakness, wide receiver depth stands out," Miller writes. "The explosive Nabers would be a perfect running mate for CeeDee Lamb. At 6 feet and 200 pounds, he averaged over 14 yards per catch last year (72 catches). Nabers had three scores, but his body control and quick feet as a route runner suggest higher totals are coming."
"I spoke to one scout who picked him as the breakout WR2 in the 2024 class. The Cowboys would be lucky to have him as the second option to Lamb, given both players' ability to make defenders miss in the open field."
To Miller's point, Dallas shored up its receiver depth by adding Houston's Brandin Cooks after Lamb dominated the aerial ledgers in his first year as the undisputed top receiving option. Beyond Lamb, Cooks, and Michael Gallup, however, the Dallas depth chart is relatively short on premium receiving talent, the most notable entry likely being last year's third-round choice Jalen Tolbert.
Dallas doesn't often use its first-round choice on receivers: prior to Lamb, the last premier pick used on a catcher was Dez Bryant in 2010, 19 drafts after choosing Alvin Harper.
Nabers' last showcase was an MVP performance in January's Citrus Bowl, earning 163 yards and a score in the Tigers' 63-7 demolition of Purdue. LSU, ranked fifth in the opening Associated Press poll, kicks off its season on Sept. 3 against No. 8 Florida State in Orlando. Dallas caps off its preseason on Saturday night against the Las Vegas Raiders at home (7 p.m. CT, KTVT).
