The Cowboys and Eagles are two favorites for the NFC crown, and while many have Philadelphia in the lead, Dallas has the means to overtake its rivals.

Ever since Dallas Cowboys defensive end DeMarcus Lawrence stated that the gap between his team and the Philadelphia Eagles isn't that big, naturally, the talk has taken hold in the landscape.

There have been reasons for and against why the Cowboys can usurp the Eagles in the NFC, and for some, it feels like Philadelphia's conference to win. NFL analyst Mike Tannenbaum gave his thoughts on the power struggle between the Cowboys and the Eagles.

"In the regular season, I love Philadelphia, and if we are in the NBA and it's four-out-of-seven in the postseason, I'm going with Philadelphia," Tannenbaum said on ESPN's GetUp. "But in a one-game season, Dallas can knock them out.”

Some of the ex GM’s reasoning? “Last year late in the season, Dallas beat them 40-34,” he said. “They had over 400 total yards, and I just don't think Dak Prescott is going to have 17 interceptions again this year. I think the way coach McCarthy and Brian Schottenheimer are going to call the game will be a little more risk-averse, and I think they're going to be harder to beat because of it.

“In the postseason, I can see Dallas going in and beating the Eagles in Philly."

Much of what Tannenbaum said is predicated on the Eagles winning the division. There is also reason, though,  to think the Cowboys can take back control of the NFC East, and as we know, the Eagles have gone through a host of changes this offseason.

Multiple starters are now gone along with both coordinators, while the Cowboys, aside from Ezekiel Elliott and Dalton Schultz, have a roster that remains relatively intact.

Additionally, some forget Dak Prescott's record against the Eagles. Since entering the league, Dak is 8-3 against Philadelphia and has won seven of the last eight.

He is also 1-0 against Hurts (small sample size), and the Eagles quarterback is 2-2 against Dallas in his career.

In the battle for the NFC East and thus having home-field advantage for the playoffs, it may all come down to the two division games against the Eagles for the Cowboys, and if previous results are an indicator, Dallas has the edge. … meaning, yes. The Cowboys can indeed “knock them out.”
