The biggest change for the Dallas Cowboys this offseason was head coach Mike McCarthy taking over the play-calling duties from Kellen Moore, who is now with the Los Angeles Chargers.

With OTA's, minicamp, and now the first couple of practices at training camp under his belt, McCarthy is back getting busy at doing what many feel is one of his key areas of expertise.

And how does he feel about the current setup?

"I feel like I'm back in my element and doing what I feel like I do best," said McCarthy. "It's been fun.''

McCarthy has had a great deal of help in installing the new plan, and he mentioned new staff adds (coordinator) Brian Schottenheimer and (offensive line coach) Mike Solari by name. He added, “I'm very impressed with our young coaches. It's hard not to have energy around here because our coaches bring it each and every day. It's definitely evident."

Job 1 for McCarthy was to implement elements of the West Coast Offense (renamed now the “Texas Coast Offense” by Dak Prescott and the QB room) into how Dallas attacks.

With a scheme designed to allow Prescott quick, easy throws to get in rhythm to keep the chains moving and be an extension of the run game, many are bullish on what this version of the Cowboys' offense will look like.

Of course, there will always be critics of McCarthy's move. But Schottenheimer, has nothing but glowing words for the boss.

"He is re-energized and excited about that opportunity," Schottenheimer said. "And, quite honestly, he's a hell of a play-caller. He's aggressive. He's confident. We want to play with an attacking scheme, and you're going to see that.”
