FRISCO - The Dallas Cowboys have a history of failure against the San Francisco 49ers; that is a matter of public record. But in attempting to roast Cowboys owner Jerry Jones, FS1 commentator Richard Sherman put on display his failure in being able to "Translate Jerry.''

This week, Jones reflected on the 49ers' "Monday Night Loss'' loss to the Minnesota Vikings, noting that the powerful Niners - which, interestingly, happens to be one of Sherman's former teams - "could be had" on any given night.

Why is this not an outrageous comment? Well ... because it just happened. This week. Oh, and it happened last week, too, when the Niners were shocked by the lowly Cleveland Browns.

"I would've liked to have played better against the 49ers," Jones said. "You see a team step up and play like Minnesota ... did, they can be had, the 49ers."

Jones is simply saying that a team can "step up'' and beat virtually anybody - fully aware of the fact that Dallas hasn't "stepped up'' in its last three meetings with San Francisco, including playoff losses in the last two years and a 42-10 loss just a few weeks ago.

"Your team just played them and they were not 'had,'" Sherman said. "They beat you by 32. It wasn't a hard game, it wasn't anything special they had to do. They beat you by 32."

Sherman is making two mistakes here. One, he is shaking his fist at the clouds; Jones did not in any way claim the Niners were "had'' while they were winning by 32. He is stating factually that they were "had'' by the Browns and the Vikings, establishing something shy of perfection. (They're 5-2. They've been "had.'' That's what the "2'' means.)

And the second mistake: As is so often the case with the national media and TV's "debate culture,'' Sherman is parsing Jones' full remarks. As Cowboys fans (and readers of CowboysSI.com) know, what Jerry said in full also included this evaluation of the 49ers and the Philadelphia Eagles ...

Jerry: 'Upper Echelon' Cowboys Aggressive at Trade Deadline?

"We're in the upper echelon," Jones said. "But to say we're right there with San Francisco or right there with the Eagles with how they've played ... I'm not going to go that far."

Jerry Jones is telling a Cowboys truth. Too bad Richard Sherman is unintentionally manufacturing a lie.
