DE Robert Quinn rejoins Cowboys with perfect timing

FRISCO - Robert Quinn is here at The Star, back in the building and soon enough, back the Dallas Cowboys after being sidelined with a two-game NFL suspension (oh, and a broken hand). The timing for the Cowboys? Just about right.

Week 3 is here and so is Quinn, just in time to shake off the rust against his former team, the lowly Miami Dolphins. He'll likely have something to prove. Miami, at 0-2 a 20-point underdog to 2-0 Dallas, will likely not have enough resistance to stop whatever that "something'' is.

Remember that Quinn worked his way out of Miami, bringing in a trade to Dallas terrific credentials as a pass-rusher, including an NFL Defensive Player of the Year honor back when he was with the Rams.

Now? Dallas, for all it has accomplished, has just three sacks in the first two games. The 46-man and the 53-man roster is in need of a shakeup; defensive end Taco Charlton is in the doghouse and defensive tackle Antwaun Woods has a bum knee and the Cowboys as of Monday are calling him "day-to-day.''

And along comes Quinn, with a likely roster exemption to buy a bit of time but a plan to have him on the field against the Dolphins. Coach Jason Garrett said the team will be monitoring his hand rehab, is hopeful he can play and is of course "Excited to have him back.''

The Cowboys acquired Quinn this offseason in exchange for sixth-round pick in 2020 while giving him a new one-year deal. He could end up being a starter at end opposite All-Pro DeMarcus Lawrence, especially if Woods' knee requires Tyrone Crawford to play more inside.

Quinn, 30, knows all the tricks of the trade and immediately upon his arrival here put on a show practicing against Tyron Smith. He's about ready to take that show to AT&T Stadium and against an opponent unlikely to stop him ... or the rest of his new teammates.
