Eagles NFL Draft Trade: Cowboys Impact From Blockbuster

FRISCO - The Philadelphia Eagles made the earth-shaking deal. But the Dallas Cowboys are feeling the reverberations.

The Eagles made a major move on Friday, trading down in the draft. They sent their sixth overall pick to the Miami Dolphins, along with a fifth-round pick, in exchange for Miami’s 12th overall pick, their fourth-round pick (No. 123 overall), and a first-round pick in 2022.

The trade came after the Dolphins moved down to No. 12 in a trade with the 49ers, sending San Francisco the third overall pick.

That certainly creates the impression that the Niners are zeroing in on a quarterback like Zach Wilson, Justin Fields or Trey Lance.

And for Philly ... and how it all relates to Dallas?

*The Eagles could in theory find a way to draft a QB at 12. But realistically, it would seem they are going with the kid Jalen Hurts as QB1. That comes with its set of issues in Philly, but in Dallas?

It means Dak Prescott figures to remain the best QB in the NFC East, maybe for some time.

*The Eagles have 11 picks in next month’s draft. That's a load in a seven-round draft, a big tool to rebuild affordably. Dallas, though, is in that same range with 10 overall picks, in large part due to the Cowboys' emphasis on the manipulation that gets them comp picks.

*Philly could get loaded up even more in 2022, though, as they could now potentially have three first-round picks in that draft: This one just acquired, their usual one, and one that will come from the Colts assuming Carson Wentz is Indy's full-time starter.

That's a Dallas problem for the future. But as the Eagles are a Dallas rival ... it represents a Dallas problem.

*At No. 12, some have projected Philly to select Alabama defensive tackle Christian Barmore. But they've also met with Jaycee Horn, the cornerback from South Carolina who - guess what? - Dallas is also considering at No. 10, along with Alabama corner Patrick Surtain and, of course, a host of others.

What Dallas does at 10 could upset Philly's plans at 12.

And finally ... That fifth-round pick that Philly is sending away to Miami? It's No. 156, a selection they acquired last year from the Cowboys in the deal that allowed Dallas to draft young center Tyler Biadasz.

So yes, even parts of the Eagles' gigantic trade that have nothing to do with the Dallas Cowboys ... have something to do with the Dallas Cowboys.
