Stephen A. Reacts to Dak Cowboys Pick 'Prediction'

In this story:
FRISCO - There was just a small group of us, and Dak Prescott said it almost in passing, certainly not meaning it to be a "declaration.'' But a "declaration'' it has become ... thus drawing the skeptics, the haters and the comedians out of the woodwork.
"I won't have (blank) interceptions this year," Prescott told us at his recent kids camp here at The Star in Frisco.
Did he say "10''? Or did he say "tipped''? We'll run that back by Dak soon enough. But for now? We bet Prescott would also like to end up with single-digit picks.
We've broken down the numbers; that "10 number'' - if one looks at QBs' interception totals from last year and if one looks at the truth about "Dak's DNA'' regarding picks - is really not an outrageous goal. But it's being treated by such, especially by those who are less interested in facts than they are in low-brow comedy.
Enter ESPN's Stephen A Smith, who knows about Prescott's league-leading 15 picks in 2023 but knows little else about the situation. Smith reacted to the comments with a tweet on social media that essentially amounted to an eye roll.
And by gosh, it works. Smith has cleverly positioned him as "The World's No. 1 Cowboys Hater,'' and even though it's an act ... it's an effective one; he can now just look askew into a camera and garner a laugh.

Left out of the conversation are three other remarks that Dak issued to us, all about the nature of the interceptions and about the nature of the criticism.
Dak on his "DNA'': "I know who I am, and you can go back and take away half of those off drops (balls that bounced off the hands of receivers). I’m not saying it’s on the receiver, but if you cut that in half then we start talking about those. (But) nobody is talking about (that).”
Dak on coach Mike McCarthy's installation and teaching of the new "Texas Coast Offense'': “Some of it is the offense and (receivers) understanding exactly where we are. Mike does an amazing job with those guys. They know where the hell to be, why to be, when they’re getting looked at. That’s going to be a big jump."
Dak on why this is such a hot-button issue featuring empty-headed surface criticism: “We are a talking point. As you find something to talk about, that’s the first thing to go to.”
