'Free Me!' Doghoused DE Taco Charlton barks out social-media request to Cowboys

FRISCO - If you've read our Dallas Cowboys coverage for the last five months, you know all about Taco Charlton's trade-block status around here. Oh, and Taco himself has known about it, too.

And now Taco himself has a very public response, aimed directly at Dallas Cowboys COO Stephen Jones.

"Free me!''

Jones was on 105.3 The Fan on Monday morning, mostly talking positively about his Dallas Cowboys' 2-0 record.

But the subject of Taco's two-game inactivity was also broached. Stephen said something about "liking rookie Joe Jackson'' and something about "position flex'' but you know -- and Taco knows -- this is mostly about Charlton being on the outs with the coaching staff.

You should not be shocked by the Sunday morning national reports of "Taco trade possibilities.'' This all came to a head not on Sunday morning, but five months ago, on NFL Draft Weekend. We reported it at the time, and Taco tweeted back at my stories in responses of acknowledgement.

Just as he is tweeting responses now.

We also broke the story nine days ago of Taco being inactive for Week 1 against the Giants ... and now we've done that again, Charlton telling us this Saturday - about 26 hours before the Week 2 kickoff in Washington that would be a 31-21 win that Charlton would watch in street clothes --on - that he was inactive here, too.

Now Antwaun Woods has a knee issue, so maybe top rookie Trysten Hill will no longer join Taco as a weekly healthy scratch. Robert Quinn eligible to return to the active roster this week and that figures to be the Taco knockout. Trade him for a late-round pick? Yes, Dallas is working on that ... but other teams now see the writing on the wall, and might opt to simply wait until Dallas cuts Charlton.

And Taco himself? He's clearly sick of waiting.
