HALFTIME: Cowboys 21, Giants 7 - Kellen, Creativity and Cobb

ARLINGTON - The Dallas Cowboys entered 2019 NFL free agency believing that at least at the position of slot receiver, it was going to be a game of "Musical Chairs'' ... and that in the end, there would be at least one more quality player than there were available seats.

Through training camp and now through one half of Week 1 against the visiting Giants, the Cowboys look very, very right - and it's Randall Cobb who is helping them do so.

The Cowboys lead the Giants 21-7 and Cobb, 28, is a major reason why.

Under new offensive coordinator Kellen Moore, Dallas has thrown a variety of looks at the Giants. Fullbacks running 9-routes. Ezekiel Elliott lining up wide. Pre-snap motion. No-huddles leading directly to the two TD throws from Dak Prescott to tight ends Blake Jarwin and Jason Witten.

Prescott's been good (20 of 26 for 256 yards and three TDs) and so has Amari Cooper (well, let's go with great with seven catches for 61 yards and a score) and and so has Michael Gallup (five for 84) and things are working out just fine for Zeke, too. But Cobb, the former Packers standout playing here on a one-year deal that is worth $5 million -- substantially less than the contract the Buffalo Bills gave to Cole Beasley to lure him away from Dallas -- has been an X-factor here.

Cobb has struggled through injuries in recent years, including last season, when he missed seven games and caught just 38 passes for 383 yards and two touchdowns, mostly due to nagging hamstring problems. This is a player, however, who when healthy was one of the NFL's toughest covers in the slot, and good for over 1,000 yards receiving. All of that was on display in the first half, including on the featured video play above, when he moved the chains with quickness and muscle, setting up the Witten TD. ... all part of his four-catch/44-yard start to the first half of the first game of his Dallas career.
