FRISCO - There will be a homecoming in this NFL season, on October 1, when running back Ezekiel Elliott - as a member of the New England Patriots - makes his return to AT&T Stadium.

But right now? The former Dallas Cowboys running back Elliott is revealing what ultimately attracted him to New England. ... and he sounds like he's feeling right at home.

"Just the importance of the back in this offense," Elliott said. "This is definitely a team that wants to run the ball, wants to be balanced."

Last season, the Patriots ran the ball on around 42 percent of their offensive plays, which ranks around the league average. The addition of Elliott could lead to a higher percentage of running plays this season, although he'll be splitting those carries with third-year back Rhamondre Stevenson. That's not a problem for Elliott, though. If anything, it's the exact opposite.

"I think I've been getting along well with the team," Elliott said. "I've known Rhamondre for a couple years, and so it's nice having him in the running back room. I think I've been a good fit and I'm having fun."

Additionally, Elliott has quickly formed a strong relationship with quarterback Mac Jones. The two players had dinner together when Elliott visited the Patriots in late July, and they are continuing to bond now that Elliott has officially signed.

"Mac, he's a pro. He does everything like a pro," Elliott said. "I could tell just from going to dinner with him on my visit, and he's a great leader."

Even though he's in a new uniform now, Elliott's top priority remains the same as was the case. When asked what he's most looking forward to this season, Elliott proudly declared that he has his sights set on the Lombardi Trophy.

"Shoot, just going out there and competing for a championship," Elliott said.
