Injury Update: Cowboys juggle O-line with two new tackles

FRISCO - It is a temporary situation but nevertheless a temporarily alarming one: The Dallas Cowboys on Wednesday began their on-field prep for Sunday's visit from the Green Bay Packers with two "new'' guys occupying both tackle spots.

The big news of the day, of course, is the return to the field of receiver Michael Gallup, who as we reported on Tuesday passed that day's on-field tests and despite undergoing a knee surgery that sidelined him for two games, plans to play this weekend.

Said Gallup: "If I feel good, I can keep going. If I didn't feel good, I was just going to do (individual work). It's all on me."

Obviously, he felt pretty good, and he added that he felt like he "cut'' just fine on the knee in this practice.

Elsewhere on the offense, though, Pro Bowl left tackle Tyron Smith remains unavailable after his ankle sprain in the Week 4 loss at New Orleans. Additionally, La'el Collins is dealing with back soreness and so he sat out Wednesday as well.

Part of the sub situation was already planned; as we wrote on Wednesday morning, Dallas plans to give the left tackle job to 27-year-old vet Cameron Fleming, who has some NFL skins on the wall as a former Patriots part-time starter.

Having Gallup back to join Amari Cooper and Randall Cobb to avenge what happened (well, what didn't happen) in Sunday's 12-10 loss at New Orleans is helpful. Having the O-line in a jumble, however, temporary, is not.

In one sense, though, this can work out fine for Dallas, as the team was planning to give Williams a little bit of emergency work at left tackle in case Fleming ever goes down. Hopefully, though, the "emergency work'' is done and Collins is back at it on Thursday.

Meanwhile, along the defensive line, Tyrone Crawford remains sidelined with the bursitis in both hips, but Antwaun Woods (knee) did return to practice and is listed as limited. DeMarcus Lawrence was also limited in practice today with what the team says is a bone bruise to his leg. Right guard Zack Martin is also among today's "limited.''

Additionally, Dallas introduced two new faces in the form of receiver Ventell Bryant, elevated from the practice squad, and former Packers safety Josh Jones, signed to the practice squad - though as I write here, the Cowboys may have different eventual plans for these two.
