Packers vs. Cowboys: WRs Amari, Gallup and Cobb as 'Pains in the Butt'

ARLINGTON - For the first time in two weeks, the Dallas Cowboys have all of their top three receivers healthy - or, at least, healthy enough to go today against the visiting Packers, with plans to be a "pain in the ass'' for the opponent.
A quick glance at the threesome of Amari Cooper, Michael Gallup and Randall Cobb:
AMARI COOPER: 1-on-1 - 'A WORLD OF HURT'
Cooper missed most of training camp because of a foot issue, and more recently that issue (plantar fascia irritation of his right foot) is added to by a left ankle problem that last week required an MRI.
But, he said, “I’m fine. They’re healing up. I’m healthy enough to go out there and perform.”
Indeed, while Cooper was listed as "limited'' on Wednesday he was a full participant in practice on Thursday and Friday. He will start today and play his usual top-target role against the Green Bay Packers at AT&T Stadium.
But it will be the result of mind over matter, as Amari explains to me on our one-on-one visit, which you can see and hear here:
".....,'' Amari told me. "XXXXXXXXX''
MICHAEL GALLUP: THE TUESDAY TRY-IT
No, not a "tryout'' -- a "try-it.'' Tuesday was the players' day off this week, but Michael Gallup, just two weeks after arthroscopic knee surgery, was ready to test his rehab. Under the supervision of trainer Britt Brown, he passed that day's test ... and kept practicing all week long.
“Gotta give credit to (trainer) Britt Brown and Michael Gallup,'' receivers coach Sanjay Lal told me. "That should be mentioned. Those two together willed MG back (to play this Sunday after knee surgery). He's gifted genetically, maybe. But his desire was high.''
Is Gallup 100 percent? He said he expects there to be some swelling after workouts. I'll assume he did nothing but rest (and more Brown rehab) on Saturday. So he's ready to contribute, on some level.
Said Gallup:
Added QB Dak Prescott: “We need him out there.”
It's the 3-1 Cowboys vs. the 3-1 Packers and Green Bay is down receiver Davante Adams ... while Dallas gets back Gallup.
Cowboys Nation hopes that means, Advantage, Dallas.
RANDALL COBB: 'A PAIN IN THE ASS'
Dallas coach Jason Garrett usually avoids the use of profanity while in front of the cameras and microphones. But it was with purpose, I think, that he labeled Randall Cobb a “pain in the ass” from the days when he was in Green Bay.
That's a compliment. The Cowboys always struggled with Cobb when he starred as an Aaron Rodgers pass-catching favorite as a Packer. And yes, the "pain in the ass'' phrase was used by the coach in his interview with Cobb before Dallas signed him this offseason.
“I think he wanted to see what kind of personality I had and how I’d fit in with this team, in the locker room,” Cobb said. “I think it’s been a great fit so far for me.”
It has indeed. Cobb's football IQ is off the charts. (Worth noting: So it's Amari's. Also worth noting: Dak praises Gallup for constantly asking questions about ways to clean up mistakes and perfect connections. So lots of conscientiousness here, and lots of FBIQ.)
Will Cobb experience some unusual emotions while facing his old team? Might he be extra productive?
“You tell me on Monday,” he said to the media about revisiting the issue on the day after the game when we all reconvene at The Star. “You tell me on Monday what you see. I pride myself in playing hard and being the best that I can be week-in and week-out. And I’m definitely going to give my best this weekend.”
