'Words With Friends': 'You'll have to ask Jerry' what 'imminent' means, says Cowboys QB Dak Prescott

FRISCO - The Dallas Cowboys' big-money game of "Words With Friends'' continued on Thursday at The Star when Dak Prescott was asked what owner Jerry Jones means when using the word "imminent'' to describe the QB's planned contract extension.

How does Jerry define "imminent?'' Dak was asked.

"You tell me,'' Prescott replied. "Ask him. I didn't say it."

There was no animosity in Prescott's answer; he's made it clear he wants to join the Cowboy For Life club and on Thursday added, "It will get done in due time."

It was certainly part of the Cowboys front office's vision to complete the deal that will make Prescott the highest-paid player in franchise history before last Sunday's game against the Giants at AT&T Stadium. Cowboys COO Stephen Jones said last Friday at about 3:30 p.m. that he held out hope of getting a deal done with Dak before the season opener. That, at that moment, created a 48-hour window.

It didn't happen. But just as Jerry said after Sunday’s 35-17 victory over the Giants "imminent'' can mean a matter of “days.”

“Oh, yes, I do know that we’ll get it done,” Jones said. “It would probably be fair to say it’ll be done on an imminent basis. Imminent. Without being real clear, bright lined. It’s not done. What’s imminent? Well, days. Days. Or something like that.”

Prescott completed 25 of 32 passes for 405 yards, four touchdowns and the first perfect passer rating in team history. And football is where he's like his public focus to be.

"I had my time to talk when it comes to negotiations,'' Dak said on Thursday. "I am focused on the Redskins. After that I'll be focused on the next opponent. I have a great team, good agents, who are handling that. My focus is all on this team. It'll get done in due time.''
