FRISCO - The very second the hyperbolic claim popped out of the very active mouth of Jerry Jones, I knew where the statement would wind up.

Grist for the mill. Purposely misunderstood. Pretzeled to a point it is unrecognizable in relation to its intent - an intent quite easy to decipher for any media member or fan who has spent a moment working to interpret 34 years of "Arkansas Salesman Word Salad'' from the Dallas Cowboys owner.

What did Jerry actually say at the end of a Thanksgiving Day that provided his Cowboys with a resounding win ... but oh so much more?

“I don’t know that I’ve had a day like this,'' he exclaimed. "And I’ll include them all, I’ll put Super Bowls in there. I don’t know if I’ve ever had a better day with the Cowboys than today.”

Naturally, by the time the Eagles media got a hold of the remark, the headline roared about a statement that was not stated: "Jerry Jones ranks Cowboys Thanksgiving victory above Super Bowl wins.''

That's not what Jerry said.

Not so naturally, some DFW folks also got it wrong by interpreting Jones' well-documented habit of hyperbole in the most literal sense ... and demanding that the 81-year-old legend, winner of three Super Bowl - meaning he actually does know that feeling, in a way none of the rest of us ever will - just shut up.

"Please stop talking,'' tweeted one local radio guy.

Our insistence on being snarky, or even mean-spirited, is unfortunate. So is our ignorance when it comes to how Jones famously speaks and thinks.

As I detail in the Fish Podcast (and the Fish Report on YouTube), my 34 years of being able to "Translate Jerry'' is provided as a public service.

And as I point out: He's 81. He's overseeing the assembly of a Super Bowl-contending team. He won a big, fun, nationally televised game over a division rival. He loves his holidays for their family time, so he's spending the week playing grandpa, surrounded by kin.

And to close the week, he got Dolly Parton to sing for him, a sort of bookend to the start of the week, when he got Jimmy Johnson to partner with him.

And if we - because we are too cool or to cynical or too hateful or too stupid - cannot understand all of that, and take enjoyment in his enjoyment? Shame on us.
