Eagles' First Loss Impacted Fans, Howie Roseman, and Tickets

One loss triggered the signing of two veteran defensive linemen and more

In this story:

The Eagles lost their first game in Week 10, becoming the last unbeaten team to lose this season, and, just like that, the sky is falling in Philly.

It’s a fan base known for overreacting, though many expected a loss at some point in the season, but not to Washington, a team that entered last Monday night’s game with a losing record and as a double-figure underdog.

The loss, which dropped the Eagles to 8-1, a game ahead of the New York Giants in the NFC East, also impacted the ticket market.

The defeat may have also left a mark on Eagles general manager Howie Roseman, who signed a pair of 13-year veteran defensive linemen during the week – nose tackle Linval Joseph and DT Ndamukong Suh.

Both have won Super Bowl rings, with Joseph collecting one with the Giants during the 2011 season and Suh getting his with the Buccaneers in 2020.

One of the additions was because second-year DT Marlon Tuipulotu was placed on IR, joining rookie Jordan Davis. Tuipulotu was Davis’ backup at nose tackle and now they are both out, though Davis is eligible to return on Dec. 4 for the Eagles’ home game against the Titans.

Roseman may have been tired of seeing the defense being gashed on the ground, with their last five opponents putting up at least 120 yards as a team in the run game. That's why he brought in Joseph and Suh.

As far as the ticket market, any Eagles fan interested in the option of a ticket to the Super Bowl in the reservation marketplace has seen the price drop.

Here is a link to SI tickets

The reservation marketplace is a way for a fan to reserve a chance to buy a ticket to see a specific team in any round of the playoffs. It’s not buying a ticket but reserving the right to do so. Think of it as a futures contract.

Two weeks ago, if you went to SI tickets, the reservation price for a ticket in the Lower Level Endzone was $1,542 after having steadily increased from Week 1.

Now the cost has dropped 18.7% and sits at $1,197.

The price has also dropped for a potential NFC Championship ticket for the Eagles by 6.21%.

As for ticket prices this week, Sunday’s Week 11 matchup between the Eagles and Colts in Indianapolis is middle of the pack in terms of average ticket cost at $377.37.

Fans who use SI Tickets to purchase lower price points throughout the first 10 weeks now have the option to A) hold onto their reservation and hope the Eagles make the Super Bowl or B) post their reservation back on the marketplace to try to sell to another fan and turn a profit.

If the Eagles don't make the Super Bowl, the user forfeits the money spent on the reservation.

Entering its second year of operations, SI Tickets by Sports Illustrated is a fan-first ticketing marketplace, offering millions of tickets to more than 175,000 concerts, theater, and sporting events across the globe, with transparent pricing that includes a $10 flat transaction fee and a guaranteed 100% refund if an event is canceled for any reason.
