Strengths

  • Massive size with elite length
  • Solid first step when he anticipates the snap
  • Picks up solid speed when he gets moving
  • Showed the ability to time snap and use hands to separate and surprise
  • Good play strength when he keeps his hat low
  • Heavy hands - strong upper body
  • Good overall power when his hat is low
  • A lot of upside when he keeps his hips low and anchors down
  • Execllent individual play vs. Auburn
    • Peek A Boo to tackle Tank Bigsby at the LOS Q3, 9:18, 1st & GOAL
  • Solid vision to see offensive intentions
  • Elite competitive toughness - sprints down the LOS
  • Surprising in pursuit - love the hustle

Weaknesses

  • Too upright with a high center of gravity - a bit high-hipped
  • Must do a better job winning the leverage battle
  • Has to learn to maximize length
  • Slow moving with little twitch - tight player
  • Pops out of stance to see - allows IOL to gain control
  • Allows zone combo blocks to seal him off the double team when he pops out of his stance
  • Little upside as a pass rusher
  • Will need development
  • Older prospect - will be 24 at the start of training camp

Summary

Brodric Martin is a very large interior defensive lineman who plays a bit too high but has impressive plays throughout his tape when he keeps his hips low and anchors in place. He offers little as a pass rusher but could develop into a two-down player with high energy who is difficult to remove from the line of scrimmage -- if he can play with a lower hat.
