Giants Unveil 10 Team Captains for 2023

In this story:
The New York Giants held their votes for their 2023 team captains, with 22 players receiving votes from their teammates. But in the end, there will be ten captains: four on offense, five on defense, and one on special teams.
Quarterback Daniel Jones, running back Saquon Barkley, left tackle Andrew Thomas, and tight end Darren Waller will represent the offensive side of the ball. Jones and Barkley are both four-time captains. Thomas will be a second-time captain, and Waller, acquired via trade this off-season, is a first-time captain.

On defense, the team voted for defensive linemen Dexter Lawrence and Leonard Williams, linebacker Bobby Okereke, safety Xavier McKinney and cornerback Adoree' Jackson. Lawrence, Williams, and McKinney are second-time captains. This will be the first captainship for Jackson and for Okereke, the latter acquired via free agency this past off-season.
Kicker Graham Gano is the special teams captain. This will be his third time serving as a Giants team captain.
"I have six slots and I have all the players vote and then if you get a certain amount of votes, then you are named captain," head coach Brian Daboll said.
"I think there was 22 people on the team that received votes, which to me is good for our team in terms of the way players perceive other players in leadership roles. Just because you are not a captain doesn’t mean you are not a leader on the team. There was a considerable number of guys who got, maybe it was five votes or three votes. Some guys got over 50 votes, but that was all by the players."
