Victor Cruz spearheaded a championship-winning receiving attack for the Giants in 2011 and earned a Pro Bowl berth as well.

These days, the former Giants wide receiver has been sharing the wisdom he gained during his career with the Giants' current receivers' crop.

Currently, the cream of the Giants receiving crop is Darius Slayton, a fifth-round pick out of Auburn in 2019 who finished last season as the Giants touchdown leader.

Currently, Slayton leads New York with 365 receiving yards and two touchdowns on 23 catches.

"Darius is the proven guy out there," Cruz told Giants Country in an exclusive interview as part of a campaign promoting a partnership with Stella Artois to bring the in-stadium food experience to fans in New York.

"The only thing I told him was to make sure that you're honing your skills and doing something to get better every day. Like every day, you're picking something that you're good at to keep sharpening that tool or something that you're not so good at that you want to get better at today.

"As a professional, you know what you're not good at, what you need to work on, you know what you want to keep sharp, you know that internally."

Slayton's commitment to getting better will be much more critical for the Giants as his role is emphasized on a thin receiving core.

The Giants' current receiving core isn't the star-studded unit it once was and hasn't done much to boost the offensive production as a whole. Currently, the Giants' receiving offense ranks 28 in the league.

However, Cruz does see an admirable attitude in how the group conducts its business. Even though it might lack elite deep threat talent, he sees a work ethic and heart that resonates with him.

"They're just hardworking guys," Cruz said. "I always hear how during practice and camp, how they challenge each other.

"Everyone is just trying to prove themselves and everyone is just trying to bring their lunch pales to work and grind, and I think you see that level of grind with this receiving core and it's been fun to watch them. I know they've had their ups and downs, but it's been fun to watch this specific core go out there and perform every week."

Stella Stadium Bites

Cruz is offering NFL fans an opportunity to re-capture the culinary NFL stadium experience as most fans are still barred from attending games this year for a good cause as well.

Cruz, along with celebrity chef Daniela Soto-Innes, has partnered with Stella Artois to offer a premium assortment of concession-inspired meals labeled Stella Stadium Bites.

The dishes will be available in Manhattan only via www.StellaStadiumBites.com for the New York Giants game on October 22, with all proceeds going toward the New York Food Bank.
