Giants Waive Wide Receiver Ryan Miller, Clearing Room on Crowded Depth Chart

New York waived depth receiver Ryan Miller as the Giants' crowded wideout room — headlined by Malik Nabers, Odell Beckham Jr., and Darius Slayton — barrels toward a 53-man roster crunch.

The New York Giants have thinned out their crowded wide receiver room by waiving wide receiver Ryan Miller, the team announced.

Miller, an undrafted free agent out of Furhman who signed with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2023, joined the Giants' practice squad after being waived by the Bucs. He did not contribute to the Giants' offense, however, as he sat on the practice squad for the duration of that season.

He re-signed with the Giants on a reserve/futures deal this past offseason, but with the team having a crowded receiver room, Miller was stuck near the bottom of the depth chart.

In two games this summer, he caught one of his two targets (both of which came in the preseason opener against the Minnesota Vikings) for 14 yards.

His other pass target was intercepted by the Vikings, Miller having failed to attempt to swat the ball away.

Overall, Miller appeared in 41 snaps on offense, 32 of which came in this past weekend’s preseason game against the Miami Dolphins.

Miller also appeared in 10 snaps on special teams for the Giants this summer, with his main contributions coming on the punt return unit, where he had 7 of those snaps.

Why It Matters

With one more week to go in the preseason before setting the initial 53-man roster, Miller, who was listed as the last receiver on the team's unofficial depth chart, wasn’t going to make it given the crowd in the receivers room.

Despite his hard work, he he never rose from the third-string offense, so unless there was an injury involved in this transaction, Miller now gets a chance to catch on elsewhere.

Miller, who was initially added more so for special teams, also didn’t do anything to distinguish himself in that area this summer.

The Giants appear to have several other candidates who can be devoted to special teams. They also still have a crowded receiver room, the lineup of which is starting to crystalize.

Malik Nabers, Malachi Fields, Darius Slayton, and Calvin Austin III appear to be the locks at the receiver position. That would leave the Giants with two or three more slots to fill from a group that includes Odell Beckham Jr., Braxton Berrios, Darnell Mooney, and Dalen Cambre.

The Giants now have an opening on their 90-man training camp roster. We will update this entry once we learn who filled the spot.
