Dak to Giants in 2025 Free Agency? Rubbish!

It ain't happening, but since Adam Schefter mentioned it, might as well discuss it.

Could current Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott be preparing to take a "giant" leap north in the division?

That was a thought tossed out there by ESPN's Adam Schefter during an appearance on The Pat McAfee Show, in which he suggested that if the Cowboys and Prescott go their separate ways after this year, a quarterback-needy team could be poised to make a move--and one such team that he mentioned was the Giants.

"Dak, to me, is a really good quarterback," Schefter said. So if and when he becomes a free agent next year, Dallas may want him back. But there might be a quarterback-needy team—Giants, Panthers, who knows? We could go through the list right now. There will be no shortage of suitors for Dak Prescott as a true unrestricted free agent on the open market."

While McAfee chimed in that such a scenario would be "an ESPN dream," the likelihood of Prescott coming to the Giants (let alone even leaving Dallas at this point) is just that: a dream.

For one, the Giants are likely to take a quarterback in this year's draft class that head coach Brian Daboll and his staff can develop within their system. If that happens--and again, it's very likely to happen given existing concerns about incumbent Daniel Jones's injury history, why would the Giants even entertain pursuing Prescott (if he becomes available) at all?

They wouldn't.

Why? Let's say things don't work out with Jones, and the team decides to move on from him after this year when the salary cap hit allows for such a move. The prudent move would be to attempt to re-sign Drew Lock to a multi-year (two-year?) deal and then if the young quarterback is ready, let him play.

If not, give Lock the reins until the youngster is ready.

As for the Cowboys? Well, for those who care, there has been early speculation that they could be eyeing Colorado quarterback Shedeur Sanders, son of one-time Cowboy (and current Colorado head coach) Deion Sanders, who reportedly mentioned the Cowboys as a destination for his son in next year's draft.

Regardless, don't expect the Giants to lose any sleep over the matter-and that includes contemplating adding Prescott to the roster.
