LB Anthony Barr Visits With Giants; No Deal Imminent (Report)

In this story:
The New York Giants, who have been letting their young linebackers compete for spots on the roster behind starter Bobby Okereke, reportedly hosted a visit with four-time Pro Bowl linebacker Anthony Barr on Thursday.

The visit reportedly took place on Thursday and comes a little more than a week after general manager Joe Schoen threw cold water on a report by CBS insider Josina Anderson claiming that Barr was working to set up a meeting with the Giants after failing to reach an agreement with the Saints.
Per Rapoport, no deal between the Giants and Barr is imminent, which could simply suggest that the Giants are doing their usual due diligence in assembling a short list of options at various positions, as they typically do, in the event they need to add someone at a position.
The Giants have Okereke locked in as one of their two starting inside linebackers. The second spot has been up for grabs between Darrian Beavers, Micah McFadden, and Carter Coughlin, with the runners-up fighting for spots behind whoever gets the other starting job.
Defensive coordinator Wink Martindale this week told reporters that McFadden is currently ahead in that competition.
Barr entered the league in 2014 as the Vikings' first-round draft pick (ninth overall) that year. He played for Minnesota until last season, when he played for the Cowboys.
Barr has appeared in 112 regular-season games with 108 starts and has 553 tackles, 41 tackles for loss, 48 quarterback hits, 18.5 sacks, 5 interceptions, and 32 pass breakups over his career. He was voted to the Pro Bowl four straight seasons between 2015-2018.
